At Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park and Biosphere Reserve, we work with various stakeholders, including JECA, PETE, and UWEMAJO, to accelerate the development of the community through sustainable efforts. This initiative ensures that the community surrounding Jozani is educated on the importance of conserving the environment and is provided with employment opportunities within the park.
Ecotourism revenue from JCBNP is equally shared 50/50 between the local community and the government. One portion is managed by the Jozani Petty Farmer Union to compensate individuals for crop raiding by wild animals. The other portion supports the Jozani Environmental Conservation Association (JECA), a civil society organization promoting local communities within the biosphere reserve.
JECA coordinates a community development fund to finance conservation and development activities in their respective villages. These revenues are fully reinvested into nature conservation and sustainable development in the Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park and Biosphere Reserve.
